Breakfast has always been my favorite meal of the day. I don’t normally eat a lot in the mornings during the week, but I lam obsessed with typical breakfast food and look forward to it on the weekends. Whether it’s a pastelito with café con leche from a Miami “window cafeteria” or eggs and pancakes from a diner. I am all about the tastes, smells, and feelings of a leisurely weekend breakfast or brunch.
Eggs are never something we run out of in our home thanks to our 5 chickens, lovingly known as the spice girls. They give us gorgeous light brown eggs every day. I’ve decided to share some of my favorite weekend recipes I make for my family on Sunday mornings with the eggs from my chickens so you can try to join in on my Sunday breakfast tradition.
Sundays at the Purzycki household are all about cooking and eating with my family. This Sunday, I will be making a typical Colombian bread called a Pan de Bono. To be completely transparent, I normally buy these from a local Colombian bakery (yes, I was able to find one in Connecticut). But since we are all in quarantine and my son is obsessed with these little breads, I decided to try making them myself. My first batch came ok, so I’m hoping I can tweak the recipe enough to give it the correct flavor profile.

Along with planning a nice brunch, I always set my table. With a baby and a toddler, this does not happen during the week. My kids eat pretty early at 6pm and they are both in bed by 8pm, so I usually have dinner with my husband in front of the television on dinner trays exhausted at the end of each day. I love to bring out my wedding china, my pretty table linens, and actually enjoy them on the weekend. The jute table placemats were a great find from Target. I love adding a contrasting texture to the table. The hydrangeas were $4.99 on sale at Whole Foods. My William Yeoward glassware and wedding china are from Bloomingdales. The tablecloth is from Homegoods. Happy Brunching!
