Connecting over a meal is one of the many reasons why I find such joy in hosting dinners, and Thanksgiving is no exception! The holidays can bring stress and anxiety, but I keep those feelings at bay by planning ahead as much as I can. My favorite part of the process though, obviously, is designing the table. I thought it would be fun and festive to share last year’s design in the hopes to inspire you to create a tablescape you’re proud of and alleviate a bit of the stress of the upcoming week!
There’s a fine line between creating an unapproachable table, and creating a welcoming one. You want your friends and family to feel the festivity of the day, but be careful to look as though you are putting on a huge show. Below are my tips for creating a special, holiday table.
GROUNDING ELEMENTS
Thanksgiving is definitely the time to break out your favorite tablecloth. I chose the one above, because of it’s color palette of warm browns and reds.
USE NATURAL ELEMENTS
I placed a garland to serve as the runner down the table and added in festive pinecones and berries for a bit more flair.
LAYER
Layer different shades and textures on the table. Thanksgiving is the perfect occasion grab the “fancy plates” out of the china cabinet. I love incorporating pops of gold in contrast to the otherwise neutral tones of the table.
DETAILS
Add in fun, unexpected details. When I found these napkin rings, I knew they would make the perfect pop of color on the table.
HAVE FUN!
Of course, the last tip is to simply have fun! This is meant to be a joyous time, so don’t let yourself get wrapped up in the minute details. If dressing the table just isn’t your thing, ask a friend or family member to help!
