CT Tastemaker: Flat Vernacular

Flat Vernacular

We’re changing it up a tad for this week’s edition of our CT Tastemaker series with a product designer— Flat Vernacular. The husband and wife team behind the wallpaper and textile company are Payton Cosell Turner and Brian Kaspr, NYC transplants currently living and working in Norwalk.

The couple infuses vibrant color and character into their designs, all with a playful flair, specifically unique to them. One of my favorite Flat Vernacular designs is the Finisterra style. It adds so much texture to a space with painterly washes of fawn and pale blue in a geometric scallop pattern.

Originally, Flat Vernacular was headquartered in New York City, but after growing tired of the city life grind and limitations of space, Kaspr and Turner moved themselves and the company to Connecticut in 2015. Now working out of a studio in Norwalk, they have continued to grow the company to what is today- flushed with fun styles. I am dying to use one of their papers in a project— anyone out there looking to spice up their home? Or perhaps a baby on the way and want to use this paper for their nursery? There is a very specific place and time for a Flat Vernacular paper, but I am at the ready to put it in play!
